EU-kommissionen har som mål att minst 70 procent av befolkningen ska ha vaccinerats mot covid-19 till sommaren.
Frustrerad EU-kommission kräver Astra Zeneca på vaccinförklaring
BRYSSEL 25 januari 2021Efter att det står klart läkemedelsföretaget inte kommer att leva upp till det leveransavtal om covid-19-vaccin som man skrivit med EU kräver kommissionen Astra Zeneca på snabba svar.
I fredags meddelade läkemedelsföretaget Astra Zeneca att dess första leverens av sitt covid-19-vaccin kommer att bli mindre än man räknat med. Anledningen ska vara en ”minskad produktion” i företagets europeiska distributionskedja. EU skrev i höstas ett avtal på för upp till 400 miljoner doser av företagets vaccin.
EU:s hälsokommissionär Stella Kyriakides skickade i går söndag ett brev till Astra Zeneca med krav om en förklaring till förseningen. Senast i dag måndag vill man ha svar.
– EU-kommissionen förväntar sig att kontraktsåtagande respekteras. Detta är avgörande för våra medborgares säkerhet, sade en talesperson för EU-kommissionen.
EU-kommissionens ordförande Ursula von der Leyen har även telefonerat med Astra Zenecas chef Pascal Soriot. Hon påminde honom att EU investerat ”betydande summor i företaget i förskott” precis i syfte att garantera leveranser av vaccinet när det godkänts.
I dag måndag anordnas även ett möte mellan representanter från kommissionen, EU-länderna och Astra Zeneca för att se vad som kan göras för att säkerställa vaccinleverenser i tid.
Kommissionen ville inte kommentera huruvida man planerar några ytterligare rättsliga åtgärder mot Astra Zeneca för att företaget inte lever upp till vaccinavtalet med EU.

I sommar har kommissionen satt som mål att minst 70 procent av den vuxna befolkningen ska ha vaccinerats. Det målet kvarstår trots Astra Zenecas problem med sina leveranser, enligt kommissionens talesperson Eric Mamer.
Italiens premiärminister Giuseppe Conte har samtidigt anklagat Astra Zeneca för kontraktsbrott.
