Ungern klassas numera som en auktoritär regim och har haft den största demokratiska tillbakagången i världen under det senaste årtiondet, enligt en färsk rapport.
V-Dem-institutet drivs av statsvetenskapliga institutionen vid Göteborgs universitet och samlar 450 indikatorer och 3 000 landsexperter för att mäta graden av demokrati världens länder sedan 1789. I den senaste rapporten framgår att Ungern, som första EU-land, inte längre klassas som en demokrati.
”EU har nu sitt första icke-demokratiska medlemsland: Ungern är en elektoral auktoritär regim. Det är det mest extrema fallet av demokratisk tillbakagång på sistone”, heter det i rapporten.
Ungern är det land i världen som sett den största demokratiska tillbakagången under de senaste tio åren, enligt V-Dem-institutets index.
Demokratirankingen toppas internationellt av Danmark, Estland och Sverige.
Inte första gången Ungern klassas som odemokratiskt
För ett års sedan slog den ansedda amerikanska organisationen Freedom House fast att Ungern inte längre kan betraktas som helt fritt – en klassificering som bara ett EU-land har.
